- Lakeland Winter Games Wrap Up – February 7, 2010
The Alberta Winter Games concluded today with final medal presentations and closing ceremonies in the Bonnyville Centennial Centre. Zone 3 will bring home the Alberta Winter Cup with a total medal count of 93. Zone 6 was awarded the Spirit of Sports Award with Zone 7 earning the Minister’s Cup for the Most Improved Zone since the 2008 Leduc Winter Games. Winners were decided on a points system based on medals won and amount of participants.
- Athletes Work for the Gold – February 6, 2010
Zone 2 is leading today’s Winter Games with athletes earning 36 medals so far. Leading with 15 Gold, athletes worked hard in events such as Judo, Cross Country Skiing and Gymnastics. More than 124 medals have been awarded to athletes since the start of the games Friday morning.
- First Medal Awarded – February 5, 2010
Athletes from across the province began competing in the Lakeland 2010 Alberta Winter Games early this morning in hopes of earning recognition for their hard work and dedication. The first Gold Medal of the day was awarded to Justin McEachern from Airdrie, Zone 2, for Male Judo under 35kg. Malcolm Keyes from Edmonton fought hard for his Silver Medal with Dorian Simmonds, also from Edmonton, following closely behind earning the Bronze.
- Lakeland Media Conference – February 5, 2010
Last night was memorable but today is when lifelong memories begin to be made. Competition began this morning at 7am in a number of sports but our first results of the games occurred in Male Volleyball being hosted at the Centennial Centre. Zone 1 beat Zone 4 and Zone 6 beat Zone 7. Results are available at any time by visiting www.albertagames.com.
- The Lakeland Hosts the Province – February 4, 2010
The Alberta Winter Games have arrived in the Lakeland and will officially kick off tonight at 7p.m. with opening ceremonies at the Centennial Centre in Bonnyville. The ceremonies will be attended by special guests including the Honourable Premier Ed Stelmach, and Cindy Ady, the Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation.
- Let the Games Begin – February 4, 2010
The official start of the 2010 Alberta Winter Games began at the R.J. Lalonde arena in Bonnyville. A crowd of more than 4,000 enjoyed the opening ceremonies while setting a new single event attendance record for the R.J. Lalonde Arena.
