A Major Partner of the 2010 Alberta Winter Games
From the 4th to the 7th of February 2010, Bonnyville and Cold Lake will host the 2010 Alberta Winter Games and 4 Wing will be a proud partner in this community event. After the recent success of the Cold Lake Air Show this summer, the Wing Commander, Colonel Dave Wheeler looks forward to continuing 4 Wing’s contributions to the local community.
Col Wheeler recently met with the Alberta Winter Games Board of Directors Chair, Mr. Phil Kushnir, and reiterated the Wing’s commitment to the event. Mr. Kushnir and the whole Board of Directors passed on their thanks for 4 Wing’s support to date.
Hosting events such as the Alberta Winter Games requires support from the local community and 4 Wing will certainly be there to do its part. Many Winter Games events will be hosted at 4 Wing facilities, involving nearly a third of all Games participants. The J.J. Parr Centre will host Men’s Hockey, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Badminton, Squash and Synchronized Swimming while the Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club will host Men’s Curling. Finally, 4 Wing engineers are building a new rifle range on 4 Wing property specifically to host the Biathlon.
Of course, volunteer support is key to hosting these events and the engagement of the entire Lakeland community will be absolutely essential to the Games’ success. As always, 4 Wing’s military personnel will continue in their primary roles of supporting the Canadian Forces’ sovereignty operations in Canada and ongoing international operations. There will also be a large contingent of military personnel who will be directly involved with the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, which are being held concurrently with the Alberta Winter Games. Interested volunteers may visit the Games website http://www.awg2010.ca for more information.
