Sport History

Synchronized swimming is one of the few disciplines to be contested only by women. In the 1920s, a group of Canadian women, led by Margaret Sellers, developed what they called “ornamental swimming,” which later became synchronized swimming. Synchronized swimming appeared as a full medal sport at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.
